Houston's Galleria mall and The Kuttin' Edge barbershop hosted the first of three 1800 Tequila Barbershop competitions. Houston is a hotbed for national trends, product placement and consumer insight, 75+ consumers (60/40 male-female, avg age 28,) packed into the salon for the competition. Maurice of Republic National Distributing, and a top trendsetter spearheaded the entire program and Derrick Banes (twitter/dbanes_ibrand), one of the countries top music agents and branding executive assisted in execution and through his relationship Platinum Music Producer Manny Fresh was secured as a celebrity judge.
The event kicked off with 5 barbers from all over the city, who were given one hour to cut the freshest design in their models hair which must contain some form of the 1800 Tequila logo or wording. The judges graded on skill, flair and creativity. In the end the barbers pulled out all stops including using distinct colors, props and a lot of imagination.
